Most of you can guess by the title of this blog that I am a dad. You might not know that I have 3 beautiful daughters that I dote on and am fiercely protective of. That being said I would like to impart upon you a little of how I think. I have seen over the years pictures on Facebook and other places that basically say that if you mess with a man's daughters be prepared to die. I am not saying I don't think those things either, but I also choose not to re-post them. Why, you may ask? Here is why.
I want my daughters to grow up and be able to take care of themselves, to a certain extent. I want them to be able to tell a boy that if he messes with them they will be the ones he has to worry about. I do not want to be a stereotype, people do enough of that already. I also think that it is a little disrespectful to my girls. They DON'T need me to protect them at all times (well Rai might). They WILL grow up and become independent women (not Rai). They WILL be able to give a boy a look that will make him very, very uncomfortable. Who will teach them these things one might ask. It is a simple answer, my wife and I will. She, my wife, can give me a look that almost makes me pee myself. Mind you I am a large man, and I don't scare easily. I hunt and butcher my own meat. But my wife, being just as tough, can reduce me to a very apologetic mess with one look.
If the day ever comes when my daughters ask me to intimidate a boy, I can guarantee you I will NOT be cleaning a gun. Like I said, I don't want to be a stereotype. I will however, be sharpening a skinning knife at the kitchen table letting the boy know that he can go from a rooster to a hen very quickly and easily. But I don't ever see that day coming. If their mom teaches them the look, they will only ever need dad as a shoulder to cry/smile/laugh on. I look forward to those days, and I hope they never turn the look on poor old dad.
